AKC/FSS rejects recognition of Volpino Italiano

Earlier in the summer of 2006, an application was sent to the American Kennel Club's Foundation Stock Service requesting recognition of the Volpino Italiano. The following is the response received by mail:

The Staff Committee for the AKC/FSS has reviewed the petition that you have submitted for acceptance of the Volpino Italiano into the AKC/FSS Program. The committee is concerned about the similarity between the Volpino Italiano and the American Eskimo. There are many similarities in comparing the two standards, and it is feared that it would be difficult to differentiate at this time.

The AKC/FSS Program will continue to evolve; as it does AKC encourages the breeders and exhibitors of the Volpino Italiano to continue to register their dogs with the ENCI.

AKC appreciates the interest in the FSS Program. Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Of course the ENCI does not register dogs born outside of Italy, even if both parents are ENCI registered. AKC's standard for the American Eskimo Dog can be found here.
